Yeah, sure, okay, FINE! It’s fair to say, sometimes I second-guess myself… and usually it’s a good thing.

I know I’ve proposed the first-ever ArmiCon as a global, regional gathering of the RArmy to attend “The Hobbit: Thorin,” or, as Sir Peter Jackson insists on calling it, “The Battle of the Five Armies.” But I’ve slept on it, and – with the additional input of others, including Gratiana Lovelace (thank you!), who commented on the previous blog post – I think we’ve come up with a sort of pilot program for our global/regional “Hobbit” events.

I had been thinking about “Into the Storm,” and how it might benefit from a strategic, tactical RArmy assault.  A film’s opening weekend Box Office is so critical to the whoever-powers-that-be as a measure of the film’s success. And in talking today to other members of the RArmy, we found others who believe the opening weekend would be the time to make our strike.

What do we mean by a “global/regional event”?

  • Depending on when “Into the Storm”  is released where you live, regional groups of RA fans will meet in a specific city for a specific showing on specific day during opening weekend to see the film together. Then, depending on the time of the show, you can gather and visit over drinks and/or a meal before or after. Lots of us would like to get to know each other, take selfies and tell tall tales!
  • In each country, each city/region would have an organizer who would coordinate details of the location (city, specific theater), showtime, and spreading the word.

Our members are allll over the world: for example, the 2,250+ membership of RA US on Facebook represent 46 countries and 51 languages (including Pirate English <grin>). So we feel it’s important to be inclusive and, even though this is a trial run, we hope it will be global.

We know this is a lot to ask. We hope that the hundreds of RA FB fan pages, Tumblr sites, bloggers, tweeters and millions of RA well-wishers around the world will join in to help us organize this, and make it happen!

If you want to be a part of this, tell us if you’re interested here.

What about Canada – Calgary specifically? I could see the movie with some fellow fans and have a bite to eat/glass of wine before/after to discuss all things RA.

Since there are sooooooooooooooo many of us all over the world – in RA US alone 43 countries – we’re encouraging people to create local meet-ups. Still, trying to determine the best communication medium for everyone is tricky. Any ideas, Sue? Would a FB Event page work for your area, or is there some better way to communicate with RA fans in and around Calgary? Twitter, like an RA Calgary or RA Alberta account on Twitter, maybe? ALL IDEAS ON THIS ARE ENCOURAGED AND WELCOMED!!!

  4. Richard Armitage US says :

We’re working with Grati… and anyone else in the RA Universe who wants to see this happen so we can make an assault on the ItS OPening Weekened Box Office! Hoping all of us pulling together will make RA walk away victorious!
